**Early Life and Education**

Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, born on June 6, 1941, in Erin-Ijesha, Osun State, Nigeria, grew up in a devout Christian family. His parents, Mr. Gabriel Kumuyi Akinfenwa and Mrs. Comfort Idowu Kumuyi Akinfenwa, were members of the Anglican Church. Kumuyi completed his secondary education at Mayflower School in Ikenne, Ogun State, in 1961, where he excelled academically. He later attended the University of Ibadan, graduating in 1967 with a first-class honours degree in mathematics, earning the title of the best graduating student of his year. He furthered his education with a postgraduate certificate in Education from the University of Lagos.

Kumuyi’s spiritual journey began in April 1964 when he became a born-again Christian. Influenced by the teachings of John Wesley, Charles Finney, and Charles Spurgeon, he developed a passion for holiness and biblical study. Despite initially losing interest in church during his secondary school years due to atheistic teachings, he later reconnected with his faith and joined the Scripture Union, where he grew spiritually.

In 1973, while working as a mathematics lecturer at the University of Lagos, Kumuyi started a Bible study group with 15 students. This group grew rapidly, leading to the establishment of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry (DCLM) in 1982. By 1988, the congregation had expanded to 50,000 members, and today, it boasts over 120,000 members, making it one of the largest Christian churches globally. The ministry has planted over 5,000 churches in Nigeria and 3,000 in other countries, with missionaries in over 100 nations.

Kumuyi’s teachings emphasize personal holiness, biblical truth, and evangelism. His sermons are known for their clarity, depth, and practical application, attracting people from all walks of life. The Deeper Life Bible Church, headquartered in Gbagada, Lagos, has a 30,000-seat auditorium, one of the largest in the world.

Kumuyi married Abiodun Olowu in 1980, and they had two sons, Jeremiah and John. Abiodun passed away in 2009, and 18 months later, Kumuyi married Folashade Adenike Blaize, the Administrator of the Deeper Life Bible Church in London.

Kumuyi is a prolific author, with notable works including *The Hour of Decision*, *Daily Manna*, and *Kumuyi: Defender of the Faith*. His writings focus on Christian living, holiness, and spiritual growth. In 2013, he was listed among the "500 most powerful people on the planet" by *Foreign Policy* magazine, and in 2018, he received an honorary PhD from the University of Abuja.
